The story of Turkey’s first gangster will become a TV series
Journalist Sina Kologlu reports that Ay Yapim is preparing to adapt the fascinating life story of one of Turkey’s most notorious bank robbers, Necdet Elmas, into a series. The series will be released on one of the digital platforms, most likely Netflix. Permission to work on the biographical series has already been obtained from Necdet’s son.
Necdet Elmas’s life is like an exciting Hollywood thriller. It includes robberies, gentlemanly treatment of victims during brilliant operations, love, escape, and transformation. In prison, Nedjet converted to Islam and completely changed. After being released on amnesty in 1974, he became the owner of a small kiosk in the Besiktas district, engaging in charity work, and died in Antalya in 2017.
Chengiz Erdinç wrote the book “Gangster – 12 Days in Istanbul / The Story of Turkey’s First Gangster Necdet Elmas”. Most likely, this will be the basis for the screenplay, but for now, Ay Yapim is only in talks to acquire the rights to the work. It is not yet known in which direction this story will be told.
