The irony of fate: the success of TV series thanks to television censorship
In an interview, the renowned Turkish producer Armağan Çağlayan expressed a rather unexpected opinion about the success of TV series in the current season. According to him, the improvement in the quality of shows was a consequence of… the toughening of television censorship.
Çağlayan ironically thanked RTUK, which fined the creators of the series “Cranberry Sherbet” (Kızılcık Şerbeti) and “Red Roses,” (Kızıl Goncalar) otherwise no one would have known about them. As a result, viewers noticed deep, multi-layered series that attracted more than 10% of the audience and found success abroad.
