New Turkish Series “Yoksulluk” (“Poverty”): A Dramatic Beginning

The series “Yoksulluk” (“Poverty”), produced by OGM Pictures for Star TV, will tell the story of six orphaned siblings struggling to survive in Istanbul. Preparations for the series are in full swing, with the central plot focusing on the lives of Azize, Cemo, Zeliha, Fidan, Samet, and Balım.

Hazal Subaşı will play the role of Azize, while Kaan Miraç Sezen will portray Cemo. Negotiations are currently underway regarding the actress who will play Zeliha, Cemo’s twin sister. The talented actress Ece Bağcı, who portrayed Sevim in Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s latest film “About Dry Grasses,” will appear as Fidan.

The cast also includes Turgut Tuncalp as Haşmet and Enes Koçak as his son Yusuf. Sacide Taşaner will play Haşmet’s mother, Remziye. Special attention is drawn to the question of who will portray the villain, Yavuz.

The first episode of the series will be filmed in İznik. The script is written by Selin Arapkirli, Ramazan Demirli, and Özgür Ağaoğlu, with the young actors’ performances being refined under the guidance of Bahar Kerimoğlu. The storyline also features a teacher named Rıfat and his wife Bala, who, while fleeing from Yavuz, created a sheltered world in the forest, protecting them from external dangers. Together with their six children, they make a living by selling honey. However, twenty years later, their world is turned upside down.
