Filming of a movie about the life of Zeki Muren begins
Filming of a movie about the life of Turkish singer Zeki Muren, which was suspended due to the pandemic, is resuming. Directed by Ezel Akay. The scriptwriter is Levent Kazak. The film will tell about the last days of the singer’s life, who was called “The Sun of Turkish Art”. Haluk Bilginer will play the main role in the movie.
Zeki Muren is a Turkish singer, composer, actor and poet. He was known as “The Sun from the Art World” and “Pasha”. In 1991, in recognition of Muren’s merits, he was awarded the title of State Artist. He became one of the first Turkish singers to receive a gold disc. In 1976, he became the first Turkish singer to perform at London’s Albert Hall.
The singer’s extravagant manners and heavy make-up made public opinion assume he was gay, but he never made any public statements about his sexual orientation. This did not stop the Turkish public from treating Zeki with great respect. He died during a concert in Izmir from a heart attack. Thousands of saddened fans came to say goodbye to their favorite artist.
