Club / Kulüp

The new Netflix series Club / Kulüp was awaited by fans of Turkish shows with special impatience. The big name of the director Zeynep Gunay Tan and the leading actors inspired hope that it would be a great success. Did it happen? Was the project a success or a failure?

On November 4, Istanbul hosted the gala premiere of the expected Netflix  series Club / Kulüp, which was attended by the stars of the project Gökçe Bahadır, Barış Arduç, Asude Kalebek, Salih Bademci and Metin Akdülger. Beren Saat and Kenan Dogulu came to support their colleagues, prompting speculation that Beren might continue to collaborate with Netflix. By the way, to get to the event, you either had to have a vaccination certificate or a negative test for COVID-19. The management of the international digital platform is very strict about the safety of its personnel.

On November 5, the world premiere of the Turkish project of the O3 Medya company took place on Netflix. It is a story of the former prisoner Matilda, who takes a job in a nightclub in Istanbul. She tries to mend a relationship with her daughter Rachel, who knows nothing about her mother. Rachel is fascinated by the handsome Ismet, who follows every skirt. Matilda does her best to keep her daughter from making mistakes. The club seems like heaven for visitors, but hell for those who work in it. With the arrival of Matilda, this place will be changed.

And now, the first results of the series became known to us. On the first day after the release, the show ranks 1st among the TV shows on the platform in Turkey. However, this is not particularly surprising, almost all the original Turkish Netflix projects hit the top10 on the day they are released in their home country. But, nowhere in the world, even in Northern Cyprus, which traditionally follows Turkey, the series did not hit the top, being in 40th position among the world’s television shows on the platform. This is the worst start of the Netflix series made in Turkey. And that, alas, is a failure.

Note that projects on Netflix either immediately find themselves in demand and fall into the top 10, or are being left behind, the platform’s audience does not give anyone a second chance.
