Exciting news for Turkish cinema fans! For the first time, a Turkish actress has received one of the most prestigious awards in the world of cinema.

Merve Dizdar, known to the audience for her roles in the series “Apartment of the Innocents” and “Omer,” has made history in world cinema as the first Turkish actress to be awarded the “Best Actress” prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

The award was presented to Merve for her role in the film “On Dry Grass” directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who has been honored with this prestigious award multiple times. For Turkish viewers and the actress herself, this award came as a complete surprise and joy after a very challenging period in the country’s life. It is worth noting that in 2003, actors Muzaffer Özdemir and Mehmet Emin Toprak  who starred in the film “Distant” directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, were awarded the “Best Actor” prize.
