Buse Meral talked about her character in the movie ‘Witch’
Buse Meral shared her thoughts on the movie “Witch” (Cadı) and her character: “In the movie, I play the role of Fikriye. She is a young widow in her early twenties, well-educated, passionate about reading, who has lost her family and longs for family warmth. Her mother-in-law wants to marry her off again to avoid gossip about her widowhood in those times. So Fikriye meets Naşit Nefi. The main reason I chose this project is the very strong female character of Fikriye. It was incredibly interesting to read, watch, and play her transformation from beginning to end. The way she discovered herself, followed what was happening around her and the truth, understood the very story everyone feared, and helped those people feeling lonely in that house where she ended up, her bravery – all of it was remarkable. One aspect of this project that particularly touched me is Fikriye’s romantic nature, her passion for reading and writing, despite the fact that women had fewer rights and opportunities at that time. Even experiencing all these events, she did not forget to express them in poetry and letters. Fikriye is a kind-hearted girl, ready to help and support everyone around her, no matter what.”
