Television Season 2023-2024: Fewer Series, Higher Costs
An analysis of the 2023-2024 television season in Turkey reveals a 7% decrease in the total number of series, bringing the count down to 53. The number of completed projects decreased by 10% to 36, and the total number of episodes fell by 6% to 1015.
The season’s top-rated series was “Bahar,” with a rating of 12.37%. Among producers and broadcasters, Gold Film and Show TV demonstrated the most success, respectively.
Overall, production costs for series amounted to approximately 8.12 billion Turkish liras. Producers faced increased expenses due to inflation and competition with digital platforms.
Seventeen series have been renewed for the next season. Saturday saw the highest number of completed projects, while Tuesday had the most renewals.
Ninety-one percent of the series are filmed in Istanbul. There was a noted decline in the number of new projects on digital platforms compared to previous seasons.
