Perihan Savaş, in a program she participated in, shared her experience at the age of 13: “My father was a dentist, and my mother was a very strict woman. She didn’t allow me to do almost anything and constantly kept a close watch on me,” Perihan explained. At 13, she decided to marry in order to escape her mother’s pressure: “My cousin Ziya was trying to leave military school. If he got married, he would be discharged, which is what he wanted. So his family came to ask for my hand. My family was afraid I would become an actress. When it came to the proposal, I agreed to free myself from my mother’s control. Luckily, we lived in separate houses and were not together.”
