Elif Shafak’s book “10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World” is being adapted for the screen. The project will be a joint effort between Madrid-based ISB Films and Turkish studio Limon Film. Nominated for the Booker Prize, the novel sheds light on the lives of sex workers in Istanbul. According to Variety, this will be the first full-length adaptation of a Shafak work. Elif Shafak, one of Turkey’s most prominent writers, left her homeland after being accused of “insulting the Turkish nation” for her novel “The Bastard of Istanbul.” However, she was later acquitted.
