The Series “A Distant City” Turns Midyat into a Tourist Paradise
The mayor of Midyat, Veysi Şahin, shared his thoughts on the contribution of the series “A Distant City” to the region’s tourism development. According to Şahin, the series, which airs on Kanal D and has been breaking ratings records, has transformed the district into a true tourist hub. The mayor expressed his gratitude to actor Ozan Akbaba for his role in popularizing the area and presented him with a commemorative award.
“An Impressive Influx of Tourists”
Şahin noted, “Midyat is known as the city of religions and languages. Its streets, historic buildings, and unique atmosphere capture attention. Since the show’s premiere, we have witnessed significant interest not only from Istanbul and Ankara but also from abroad. As the local administration, we are doing everything we can to manage this influx.”

In an interview with Milliyet newspaper, the mayor emphasized that the series has garnered a wide audience not only in Turkey but also in Middle Eastern countries. “These series are not just entertainment content but also a unique opportunity to promote our cities,” he added.
