Hülya Avşar: ‘If you have no bread you can eat simits’

In recent days, the Turkish TV series has given way in the ratings to news coverage, and this is no coincidence – Turkey is going through a severe economic crisis. The Turkish lira exchange rate against the dollar in just a month rose to 17.50 and continues to grow rapidly (at the beginning of the month it was 10.35).

However, not all Turkish stars are aware of how serious the situation is and what may happen next. So, Hülya Avşar, when asked what she thinks about the crisis, answered that you need to think about such things in advance and anticipate difficult days. Now we are going to ‘stretch the legs to fit the blanket.’ Of course, this will all be overcome over time. In the meantime, if necessary, we will eat simits (bagels).

The words of the star caused a storm of ridicule on social networks. First, users responded with the saying ‘a well-fed man finds it difficult to understand a starving one.’ At least she knows that people no longer eat simits in the morning because it is too expensive. Does she even know how much simits cost and can the poor afford to buy them? Well, of course, the luxurious life of an actress does not allow her to see how poor people live, how much they pay for gas, electricity, medicine. Users of social networks joke bitterly: ‘woe to the country where Hülya Avşartalks about the economy’ and ‘she thinks that simits cost 50 cents, and we are all seagulls.’
