Disney Plus is removing Turkish shows
Turkish film fans barely had time to mourn the halt of new series production in Turkey by the digital platform Disney Plus when they were hit with another blow: the platform started removing previously released Turkish projects.
Another shock for Disney Plus subscribers. The Disney company announced a plan to save $1.5 billion on content. It is planned that by the end of June, content expenses will be further reduced by $400 million. This implies the removal of more content from the platform. It is claimed that among the projects to be removed at the end of this month in the United States are also Turkish shows on Disney Plus. It is currently unknown whether domestic projects will remain in the catalog for Turkey.
The following Turkish projects are among those slated for removal:
- “Recep İvedik 7”
- “Kral Şakir: Geri Dönüşüm” (King Şakir: Reboot)
- “Ben Gri” (I Am Gray)
- “Kaçış” (Escape)
- “Dünyayla Benim Aramda” (Between World and Us)
- “Yılbaşı Gecesi” (New Year’s Eve)
- “Bursa Bülbülü” (The Nightingale of Bursa)
- “Özür Dilerim” (I’m Sorry)
It has also recently been announced that the launch of original Turkish shows on the Disney+ platform has been temporarily suspended. It is reported that the reason for this drastic decision by Disney Plus management was the disappointing subscriber numbers in Turkey. While its main competitor Netflix has over 2.6 million subscribers, Disney Plus reportedly has only 50,000 according to independent sources.
