Export and import of TV series in Turkey
According to a study by K7 Media, Turkey holds a significant position among countries actively adapting foreign TV series. From 2020 to 2022, the top countries in terms of adaptations are the United Kingdom with 40 adaptations, followed by Israel (30), South Korea (24), the United States (16), Turkey (14), Argentina, and Japan (10 adaptations each). Some Turkish adaptations, such as “Anne” and “Kadin”, have generated much more interest than the originals.
In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the adaptation of Turkish series abroad. This includes popular series like “Ask-i Memnu”, “Ezel,” “Suskunlar”, “Elif,” “Son,” “Kirgin Cicekler”, “Skandal”, “Adini Feriha Koydum”, and “Şahsiyet”. The agreement between MBC, one of the leading media companies in the Arab world, Ay Yapim, and Med Yapim, further stimulates the development of adaptations. Adaptations of the series “Gullerin Savasi” and “Sadakatsiz” have already been produced, with “Yasak Elma” being planned for the future.
In conclusion, Turkey continues to hold an important position among countries that not only import but also export adapted TV series.
