Shocking news for fans of Aras Bulut İynemli. The series “Atatürk” will not be shown on the digital platform Disney Plus, and this has already caused a wave of outrage in Turkey. So, what happened?

According to the newspaper Yeni Şafak, the series “Atatürk,” which had a production cost of 8 million dollars, will not be released on Disney Plus. The 6-episode show will be reworked into a film, which will be released in Turkish cinemas on November 3rd.

The newspaper claims that Disney company yielded to pressure from the Armenian lobby in the USA and decided not to air the series on its digital platform. In order not to waste the work already done, they will release it as a film. However, a significant amount of the filmed material will not be included in the movie.

Previously, the state censor RTÜK threatened severe consequences for international platforms that violate Turkey’s laws, particularly those that disrespect the memory of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Outrage is growing on social media over the fact that Disney does not intend to show the series worldwide, as promised earlier. Disney’s behavior is being compared to that of Netflix, which portrayed Atatürk with great respect in the series “The Midnight at the Pera Palace,” leaving a positive impression on Turkish viewers. There are rumors that Netflix might buy the show.
