Aras Bulut İynemli: “I didn’t deserve this”
The controversy continues over the decision of the digital platform Disney Plus to remove the series about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk from airing. Criticisms were directed at the lead actor Aras Bulut İynemli, who personally responded to the accusations against him.
Aras Bulut İynemli, who portrayed the role of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in the film about the founder of the Turkish Republic, responded to the criticism from the chief editor of the publication Hürriyet, Ahmet Hakan. The editor reproached the actor for not expressing dissatisfaction with Disney+’s decision to remove the series from broadcasting.
Aras wrote that the criticism deeply saddened him; he feels like a target for unjust accusations when he is blamed for not defending Atatürk. His civic stance as a Turk is questioned, as well as his professionalism as an actor. Aras believes that he doesn’t deserve such treatment and thinks that actors shouldn’t engage in discussions unrelated to their work. This could diminish the significance of the film itself, and its message could be overshadowed by the controversy surrounding it.
