Why are there so many blunders in the Golden Boy series?
The series “Golden Boy” has become one of the most discussed and popular Turkish shows in the past year. This series is so multifaceted and intricate that it evokes both joy and admiration as well as complete confusion and outrage among different viewers. Some inconsistencies and forgotten plot points in the storyline are particularly surprising, which we will try to analyze today. Let’s attempt to understand how this could have happened.
Ferit Korhan’s Diabetes in the “Golden Boy” Series
At the beginning of the series, Ferit was diagnosed with a serious condition – diabetes. This disease requires a strict diet, blood sugar monitoring, and even insulin injections. This diagnosis receives significant attention at the start of the series, as Ferit receives a lot of care and attention from his family because of it.
However, as the storyline develops, this plot line disappears. The importance of Ferit’s diabetes is almost never mentioned, and he seems to magically recover without needing treatment. This raises questions about the logical progression of the storyline.
Aunt Hatuç’s Necklace for Seyran
In one of the episodes, Aunt Hatuç gives Seyran an expensive necklace that was a gift from Halis. She says that Seyran should wear it if she ever feels unwell or finds herself in a dangerous situation. This plot element seems important and could have had an impact on the storyline, but it is never mentioned again and appears to be forgotten.
The Forgotten Necklace
At the beginning of the series, Ferit is introduced as a young man who is supposed to take on responsibilities and become a mature man under the guidance of a one-armed jeweler. The idea was intriguing: an apprentice learning the art of jewelry craftsmanship from a master, starting with simple tasks, honing his skills, and eventually moving on to more serious projects.
However, as time goes on, this interesting story about Ferit and his apprenticeship is forgotten. Initially, it is mentioned only in passing, and then it completely disappears, replaced by new events. This discrepancy raises questions: why introduce this plot line if there was no intention to develop it?
In the continuation of the plot involving the one-armed master, Halis’s grandfather tasks Ferit with creating a design for jewelry. Ferit, facing creative difficulties, turns to Seyran, his wife, who successfully completes his sketch, turning it from a failed drawing into a work of art. According to Halis, it becomes a masterpiece, and everyone admires Ferit’s work.
It seems that there was potential for the development of Seyran’s artistry and her desire to learn in this field, but instead, the storyline quickly fades and is not explored further.
Seyran, Who Became a Housewife
Initially, in the “Golden Boy” series, Seyran dreamed of continuing her education at university. This idea permeated all conversations and debates between Seyran, Ferit, and the members of the Korhan family. Over time, there was hope for the development of this plot line, but despite expectations, the writers did not pursue it, and it seems to have been buried.
Additionally, in the series, new characters are introduced, such as Mr. Efe and Mrs. Defne. Mr. Efe offers Seyran a contract to participate in his advertising project, promising to donate the proceeds to charity, thereby providing education for needy girls. This idea ignited passion and enthusiasm in Seyran, and she fought fiercely for this opportunity, even against her own family. However, the storyline suddenly takes a turn, and Seyran declines the opportunity to participate in the project, after which the characters of Mr. Efe and Mrs. Defne disappear from the plot.
What Happened with The Insanli Family?
Saafet Insanli, initially introduced as a potential suitor for Suna, appeared to us as a person with certain unusual traits. Our first impression of him was on the day they met: Saafet turned out to be a user of various technical gadgets and occupied in this field.
However, the storyline suddenly shifts direction, and the writers downplay the theme of technology, presenting Saafet in an unexpected light. He is revealed to have a foot fetish. This becomes the main characteristic of his character, pushing the theme of technology into the background.
Furthermore, in one of the episodes, a girl is briefly shown being held captive by the Insanli family, and she is in a terrible state. Her behavior ranges from resistance and escape attempts to apathy and obedience to Tarik Insanli’s orders. Despite the intrigue sparked by this mysterious plotline, it remains unresolved.
Ferit’s Job That Doesn’t Exist
Ferit forgets about his job in the jewelry workshop and starts working in the Korhan office. Initially, he takes on his responsibilities responsibly and diligently performs his duties. However, events in the series lead him to leave his job, and eventually, he even starts taking unjustified leave. In the end, his job takes a back seat, and there is no place for it in the storyline.
Why are there so many mistakes and unexplored plot lines in the series? This is due to the peculiarities of producing Turkish television series. These series are filmed on the fly and immediately put on air. The script changes during production, sometimes in an accelerated manner. Turkish producers prioritize high ratings, which determine the success of a project. In case of a drop in ratings, the production team tries to salvage the situation by introducing new characters and plot lines to generate interest in the show.
High ratings provide substantial advertising budgets, which in turn provide financial resources for the continuation of filming. Thus, for the Turkish television industry, it’s a business where they rely on audience reactions rather than the logic of the script. Numerous unexplored moments and mistakes are characteristic of many projects, and their abundance sparks interest and discussions among viewers.
