Interview with Sema Ergenekon, the screenwriter of the series ‘Family Secrets’
Screenwriter of the series “Yargı” (Family Secrets), Sema Ergenekon, shared her thoughts on criticism and the creative process in an interview with Hakan Gence:
“Have you ever limited yourself due to fear of criticism or public condemnation?” Gence asked. Sema replied, “No, I realize it can cause anger, but viewers will watch anyway. Life is full of emotions: anger, offense, joy…”. She also noted that sometimes fans remind them of events from the first season that the writers themselves have forgotten, and this can be a useful idea, but the final decisions must remain with the authors. “If we let fans decide the fate of the characters, we lose. I’m pragmatic and need to know the route, speed, and direction in advance.”
Speaking about the victory at the Emmy International and the upcoming farewell party, Sema noted: “It was an incredible, beautiful feeling. But yesterday I thought that watching the finale with many people at Lütfi Kırdar is more important than any award. It will be an exciting evening full of surprises and emotions. It’s amazing to see the live reaction, and of course, social responsibility is also very important.”
