“Cesur ve Güzel” is set to be adapted in Spain
The series “Cesur ve Güzel” (Bold and Beautiful) is set to be adapted in Spain. The premiere of the Turkish series adaptation, reported by Sina Koloğlu, marks a new phase in the expansion of Turkish dramas, which have already gained international acclaim and are now being tailored for Western audiences.
An example of successful adaptation is the work of Saudi Arabia’s MBC channel, and now Spain joins this trend.
“Cesur ve Güzel,” produced by Ay Yapım, was filmed in Madrid and the Canary Islands in collaboration with Secuoya Studio. The Spanish version, titled “La Encrucijada,” will be broadcast on Antena 3, part of the major media company Atresmedia.
The series narrates the forbidden love between Amanda and Cesur from feuding families, starring Astrid Bergès-Frisbey and Rodrigo Guirao.
For Ay Yapım, the significance of this project is immense, as the company becomes the first Turkish production firm to invest in Spain and broadcast its projects on a national Spanish channel through co-production.
“Cesur ve Güzel,” originally aired on Star TV in 2016 with Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ and Tuba Büyüküstün in the lead roles, has captured audiences in 130 countries and was nominated for an Emmy International in the “Telenovela” category. Kerem Çatay, on behalf of Ay Yapım, emphasizes the project’s uniqueness: “Previously we participated in filming various works abroad, but this time we act not only as co-producers but also as broadcast rights holders, which is a premiere for the Spanish TV industry.”
Çatay sees this success as a testament to the high quality of Turkish storytelling.
