Birsen Altuntaş reports that the digital platform Disney+ is resuming the acquisition of local content in Turkey after a period of global cost-cutting. Previously, the platform removed over 5,000 units of local content as part of cost optimization, which was part of the company’s global strategy.

Recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the profitability of Disney+, leading to a revision of the policy regarding local content. The leadership of the Turkish division of Disney, including Cenk Soner, Mehmet İçağasıoğlu, Türkan Yurdam, Gülçin Çelik, and Naz Yiğit, has begun negotiations with leading series and film producers in the country.

Disney+ Turkey is expected to resume investments in local content starting from 2025. Funding will be provided through advertising models and collaborations. Türkan Yurdam, Gülçin Çelik, and Naz Yiğit will be responsible for the content, while overall management will remain with General Manager Cenk Soner and his deputy Mehmet İçağasıoğlu.

The new strategy of Disney+ in Turkey is aimed at acquiring quality dramas, comedies, and romantic comedies that can attract a wide audience and support the platform’s advertising model.
