Netflix signs agreement with Sony Pictures

According to The Wall Street Journal, digital platform Netflix is ​​signing a multi-year strategic agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which will begin in 2022.

The streaming giant will be the first to purchase Sony films for exclusive broadcast on the platform immediately after the end of the screening in cinemas. Netflix will also have access to the company’s already released films. It is curious that among the films that will be available to Netflix users are the adventures of Spider-Man and other heroes of the Marvel universe to which Sony has rights. For Netflix, getting the Marvel heroes back was a matter of principle. Also, the company’s management emphasizes that they also are going to create the  films and series that for Netflix, but this should not affect the release of products for cinemas.

P.S. Netflix has already officially announced the premieres of the following films: UNCHARTED, MORBIUS, BULLET TRAIN & WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING, sequels VENOM, JUMANJI, BAD BOYS & SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE.
