Melisa Sözen Exposes Monopolies in Turkish Television: Revelations That Shook the Industry
Melisa Sözen has spoken out about the scandal that erupted in the Turkish TV industry following the antitrust committee’s investigation.
She wrote:
“It cannot be denied that monopoly is a problem in this industry. It is unacceptable for producers and networks to push the same names, threatening some actors by saying, ‘If you work with this actor, you will no longer collaborate with us.’ This power extends not only to projects but also to the management of actors’ careers, forcing them into dependence on this system.
Psychological pressure, expressed through remarks like, ‘At 20, you should already be preparing for mother roles,’ or ‘This producer doesn’t approve of your energy; without me, you wouldn’t have landed this role,’ destroys actors’ confidence and binds them to this toxic framework.
It is time to end this monopoly and the acceptance of such abuses as the norm. We need to focus on solving the problem, not perpetuating it.
In doing so, we won’t be affected by tabloid rumors or fear-driven articles. What matters is how we wield the power we hold.
The issue is about fair working conditions. It is about talented actors who remain in the shadows because they lack sufficient support.”
