Hazal Filiz Küçükköse and Cengiz Coşkun return in a new historical series that will be the prequel to the famous Turkish hit The Magnificent Century! What do we know about the new project?
In recent years, Turkish producers have been quite successful in the genre of historical epics that conquer the world. The first breakthrough to the international market was The Magnificent Century series. The success was confirmed by the super hit Resurrection Ertuğrul and its sequel The Ottoman. In this TV season, TRT1 channel has presented the series Awakening: The Great Seljuks, which has captured the imagination of Turkish viewers. A new TV show about the life of the famous sailors Barbaros brothers is being prepared.
Digital platforms are also not far behind. Netflix presented its viewers with a breathtaking docudrama Rise of Empires: Ottoman about the conquest of Constantinople by Sultan Mehmed Fatih. And now, a new “Ottoman project”, which will tell about the life of the father of Sultan Suleyman Sultan Selim the Terrible.
Companies 2506 Yapım and İntermedya begin filming the digital series Yavuz dedicated to the life of Sultan Selim The Terrible. The lead role in the project will be played by Cengiz Coşkun, known for his work on the Resurrection Ertuğrul series, where he played a loyal companion to the protagonist Turgut. The wife of the main character, Hafsa Sultan, will be played by Hazal Filiz Küçükköse.
The series will consist of three seasons and will be released on Acun Ilıcalı’s new digital platform Exxen, which is scheduled to open on January 1, 2021. Filming will take place on the plateau where The Magnificent Century was previously filmed and will begin in November. Directed by Bilal Kalyoncu.
