Digital platform Netflix, which last year shared its official subscriber numbers in Turkey for the first time, has released another report, stating that the number of subscribers has increased from 1.5 million to 3 million over the year. Together with family members, it can be assumed that 10 million people currently have access to Netflix in Turkey. Considering the unprecedented growth in subscribers, the company’s management decided to open a Turkish office, which will house the team of the digital platform operating in Turkey.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy welcomed the decision of Netflix, expressing confidence that films and TV series produced in Turkey will be seen by the whole world, which will contribute to the further development of the country’s cinema and television sector. Netflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings reiterated that they attach great importance to the development of original Turkish content and are proud to open an office in Istanbul. They will develop Turkish content to be enjoyed all over the world. Mr. Hastings gave special thanks to the platform’s 3 million subscribers for their support.

Pelin Distas, director of original content for Netflix Turkey, said they will soon increase production of original TV shows to be seen in 195 countries. Netflix also shared a list of 20 countries where Turkish products are particularly popular, including the United States, Argentina, Australia, Great Britain, Brazil, France, India, Spain, Italy, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Chile.
