Çağatay Ulusoy’s performance surprised English critics
Among the dozens of reviews of the film Paper Lives, which are published in foreign publications around the world, one can single out the opinion of critics of the UK Film Review website. It is the partner of numerous independent film festivals in the UK and brings together a group of highly respected journalists who are listened to all over the world.
The journalist believes that very difficult and serious topics such as child abuse, drug addiction, illness, poverty, childhood traumas, mental health are reflected in the film with great accuracy and with a sustained balance that does not allow going to extremes.
However, the main element that caught the attention of the critic was the brilliant acting. Çağatay Ulusoy and Emir Ali Dogrul amaze the audience with incredible chemistry on the screen from the very first shot. Ulusoy conveys all the shades of his character’s emotions in such a way that the journalist literally “falls out of his chair” at some points in the film. His reactions are so natural that even outbursts of anger, despair, sadness of his character look completely natural. The story itself could have been called a “tearjerker“, but it would hardly have made an experienced journalist cry if it had not been for Çağatay’s acting. His emotions capture the audience and give the story a special depth, which is seen and conveyed by the magnificent direction of Can Ulkay.
Serkan Güler’s cinematography immediately attracts attention to the film. From the first shots, viewers are captured by stunning shots, movements, composition. Each new shot is beautiful and unique. But the main thing is well-balanced, which allows viewers to plunge into the story.
The only negative aspect of the film is the choice of music. Although the soundtrack itself looks impressive, sometimes it falls out of place and at the wrong time, which gets out of the general atmosphere.
The final of the film made a particularly strong impression on the critic, it was beautiful and gave answers to questions that the viewers had during the viewing. The journalist encourages viewers to watch the film to see the amazing ending of this story.
