Levent Ülgen made a statement regarding a period in Turkey’s history when wearing Muslim headscarves was prohibited in universities and schools, emphasizing that he actively opposed this measure.

“During the ban on headscarves, I actively participated in protests against this restriction. I believe that the ban on headscarves was an expression of injustice. While studying at the state conservatory in Ankara, I witnessed protests in front of the theological faculty building among women wearing headscarves. I turned to my classmates: ‘You have the right to come to the institution however you want. You can dye your hair different colors and attend classes, while these girls cannot attend classes just because of their headscarves. This is unfair!’ I organized a protest at our conservatory and joined the protests against the ban on headscarves in a sign of solidarity. Throughout my life, I have fought against any form of injustice,” Levent Ülgen shared in an interview with Sabah publication.
