Turkish TV series VS the Game of Thrones
The series Game of Thrones set a record with 19.3 million viewers who watched the last episode of the project live. 13.6 million watched the HBO channel, while the rest used the HBOGO and HBO Now Internet platforms.
For comparison, Turkey’s top-rated TV series of recent years Lifeline / Sen Anlat Karadeniz with a maximum rating of 21.38% was watched by 17.53 million viewers only on television. The rating of the final episode of the series Forbidden Love / Aşk-ı Memnu is 23.40%.
Of course, the comparison is not entirely correct, because the Game of Thrones was shown on a paid TV channel, while the Turkish TV shows are being released on free-to-air television. However, this shows the great love of the Turkish public for their own serial production. You can safely consider Turkey as the country with the largest number of TV series fans in the world.
