The premiers of Turkish TV shows on Netflix
Netflix digital platform entered the Turkish market just three years ago, and has achieved significant success by raising the number of accounts to 1.5 million in Turkey and offering its subscribers new original shows. What Turkish projects will we see on the platform next year?
A year ago, the Netflix released its first original Turkish series, The Protector, starring Çağatay Ulusoy. The experience turned out to be very successful, the project was among the most popular shows of the platform in 2019. It is not surprising that work on the original Turkish products has begun. The Netflix users will see the big Turkish projects in the near future. We already know the dates of some of them.
On December 27, Netflix will present its second project, Atiye / The Gift, starring Beren Saat. On December 17th, a gala premiere of the new show will be held. The platform specifically introduced Beren as its star and most likely her name will be put on the credits of the new series separately, before the names of scriptwriters, producers, and the rest of the cast, as was done with Çağatay Ulusoy in The Protector. The premiere date of the second season of the project has not yet been announced, but many hopes that, as in the case of the Protector, it will take place in April. The success of the first part will determine whether Netflix decides to renew Atiye for the 3rd and 4th seasons or whether the story will be finished.
On January 24, 2020, the premiere of the docudrama Rise of Empires: Ottoman starring Tuba Büyüküstün, Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu, Selim Bayraktar, Birkan Sokullu, Osman Sonant, Tolga Tekin, Ushan Çakır, Damla Sönmez will take place. We remind you that Netflix has already released 3 seasons of a successful docudrama Roman Empire and hopes to repeat success with a new project dedicated to the creation of one of the most powerful Islamic states.
In March 2020, Netflix will release the series Love 101 starring Kaan Urgancıoğlu, Pınar Deniz, Kubilay Aka, Alina Boz and Mert Yazıcıoğlu. This will be the first cooperation of digital platform and Ay Yapim TV company. According to rumors, the company is negotiating the sale of The Choice / Babil series starring Halit Ergenç, Ozan Güven, Nur Fettahoğlu, Aslı Enver and Birce Akalay on the platform after the broadcast on Star TV channel, but a decision has not yet been made.
In the first half of 2020 (presumably in April), viewers will also see the 3rd season of the hit series Hakan Muhafiz / The Protector. This time, due to the success of the project, Netflix significantly increased its financing. We will see the first Protector of Istanbul, as well as Sultan Fatih. Season 4 is expected to be released in September and will be final. Çağatay Ulusoy is already working on other films and the series.
In January, BKM Film will start the shooting of new Netflix series. The script writer is Burak Aksak. The director is Selçuk Aydemir. The director Andaç Haznedaroğlu will start to work on the second show for the company in May. According to so far unconfirmed information, the star of this project will be Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ.
Also, next year we will see a new series directed by Berkun Oya, which is currently being shot. This is a story about modern Istanbul and its inhabitants. It is expected that in the near future the filming of the new project of OG Medya for Netflix based on the book “Girl behind the Glass” starring Tuba Büyüküstün will also begin.
However, the main project of the platform is a series that will be filmed in the Aegean region. According to Netflix’s chief PR manager for Turkey and the Middle East, Artanç Savas, Netflix is currently in talks with regional leaders, placing particular hopes on this series. According to as yet unconfirmed information, we are talking about the series of the TIMS & B company and the Spanish company Plano a Plano. Journalist Sina Koloğlu claims that the platform ordered two seasons at once. However, it remained to be seen who will star in the new show.
